What: As part of the opening weekend of “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” Portland State archaeologists and locals in the profession are hosting “Archaeology is Here!” events to help promote the field of archaeology at select Lloyd Cinemas’ showings of the movie. Joining in the excitement and dressing like archaeologists in the field, the professionals will have artifacts from the region and many tools of the trade for kids of all ages to view.

Background: The “Archaeology is Here!” events are designed to promote archaeology being done here in Oregon, emphasize its importance in the region and demonstrate that there are real-life archaeologists in the community. “Archaeology is Here!” is also promoting Portland State University’s first-ever Portland Archaeology Day coming this fall. The free day of fun interactive archaeology activities will take place in the South Park Blocks, September 27, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
