For the third consecutive year, Portland State is competing in Recycle Mania, a nationwide recycling competition. Over 400 schools compete to see which instititution has the highest recycling rate, as well as which institution can collect the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the least amount of trash per capita, and the largest amount of total recyclables. The competition runs for a 10-week period, and data is collected weekly.
PSU's fourth-week rankings:
Grand Champion competition: 40th place, with a 23.41 percent recycling rate
Per Capita competition: 101st place, with 3.34 pounds of recyclables per person
Waste Minimization competition: 15th place, with 14.25 waste pounds per person
Gorilla competition: 52nd place, with 68,365 total pounds recycled
