The University will soon implement a new emergency contact system through National Notification Network, or 3N. From systems off campus, 3N can rapidly send voice messages, e-mails, and text messages to faculty, staff, and students, who have registered their preferred contact information with the new system—and kept it up-to-date.
"Portland State, like other institutions, could face emergencies that require immediate action from campus leadership to help mitigate the situation," said Lindsay Desrochers, vice president for Finance and Administration. "Such emergencies require a quick communication to the University community, usually in multiple forms, and the 3N system will make this possible."
Beginning next term, a series of e-mails will go out urging all faculty, staff, and students to sign up for the new 3N system. Students will also be asked to sign up as they register for classes. The contact information collected for Portland State's 3N system will be confidential and only used for critical campus communications.
