Portland State’s School of Fine and Performing Arts presents David Mamet’s Pulitzer-Prize winning comedy “Glengarry Glen Ross,” as the fall theater mainstage production.

Directed by Devon Allen, “Glengarry Glen Ross” is a gritty dark comedy that exposes a dog-eat-dog world, where a few small-time, ruthless real-estate salesmen scramble for their share of the American Dream. At once hilarious and disturbing, the play presents a Darwinian battle between men who scheme, cheat, curse, plead, steal, despair and connive in an attempt to get “on the board,” an office chart that marks who is ahead in the sales race, peddling vacation property. The winner gets a Cadillac and the loser gets the ax (CONTAINS MATURE LANGUAGE).

Performances of “Glengarry Glen Ross” run Friday and Saturday, November 9, 10; and Wednesday through Saturday, November 14*–17, at 7:30 p.m.; with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 11. All performances are in the Lincoln Performance Hall (1620 SW Park). Tickets are $9.50 general admission; and $8.50 for seniors, students and PSU staff/faculty and can be purchased through Ticketmaster or at the PSU Box Office by calling 503.725.3307 or visiting the foyer of Smith Memorial Student Union (1825 SW Broadway).

“Glengarry Glen Ross” is a mix of hilarity and fury. Filled with shocking twists and turns, this cold-blooded drama won the 1984 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and 4 Tony Awards for its original London performances, and in 2005, it won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play.

Devon Allen is an associate professor of Theater Arts and is head of the acting program. Before coming to Portland State, she taught at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, Duke University, University of California San Diego, and Muhlenberg College. Parallel to her teaching, Allen also maintains a professional acting and directing career.

* The November 14th performance is a “Pay-What-You-Can Affair” in conjunction with the Oregon Food Bank. Bring two cans of food or cash donation. All cash proceeds benefit the PSU Department of Theater Arts.
