Clackamas Commission Chair Martha Schrader to Emcee
Clackamas County Commission Chair Martha Schrader will be the emcee of the sixth annual Urban Pioneer Awards Dinner hosted by Portland State University’s College of Urban and Public Affairs, on Thursday, May 17, 2007, at the Portland Hilton Hotel (921 SW Sixth Avenue).
The Urban Pioneer Awards honor community leaders who exhibit many of the ideals taught to students and valued by College of Urban and Public Affairs’ faculty and community partners. This year’s honorees are Gretchen Kafoury, recipient of the Nohad A. Toulan Urban Pioneer Award for Public Service; Gerding Edlen Development, recipient of the Urban Pioneer Award for Civic Leadership; and The Portland Gay Men’s Chorus, recipient of the Community Organization Urban Pioneer Award. The Urban Pioneer Awards event includes a reception, dinner and entertainment. The reception starts at 5:30 p.m. and dinner begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $125 and are available by contacting Rod Johnson at 503-725-4044 or rod@pdx.edu. County Commissioner Martha Schrader was appointed to her position in June 2003. From 1997 to 2003, Schrader was the chief legislative analyst in the Office of Representative Kurt Schrader (her husband). Since 1982, she has been a farm manager and small businesswoman for the Three Rivers Farm. Commissioner Schrader has taken courses towards a Ph.D. in Public Administration and Policy with a focus in governance, civic capacity, and nonprofit management at PSU’s College of Urban & Public Affairs. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and master’s degrees from both University of Illinois and Portland State University.
