Dan Bernstine is the first Oregon University System president to sign the Presidents Climate Commitment sponsored by the Association for Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. He has also agreed to serve on its leadership circle to help shape the initiative and promote it to other college and university presidents nationwide.
"This is an important step for PSU in addressing climate change and finding clean energy solutions," said David Ervin, PSU Academic Sustainability Program coordinator and director of the Center for Sustainable Processes and Practices. "It also complements our Focus the Nation activities."
President Bernstine's signing commits PSU to develop a comprehensive plan within two years to attain climate neutrality (Capstones will work on this task.); establish policy, make purchases, or encourage practices that are sustainable and/or energy efficient; and make progress reports publicly available.
