Northwest Economic Research Center Celebrates First Anniversary
The College of Urban and Public Affairs is pleased to celebrate the one year anniversary of the Northwest Economic Research Center (NERC). Launched in the fall of 2011, NERC is a partnership between the College of Urban & Public Affairs and the College of Liberal Arts & Science, and aims to fill a need for applied economic research in an academic setting in Oregon.
Led by Tom Potiowsky, the chair of Portland State's Economic Department and Oregon's State Economist from1999-2006, the Center's mission is to serve the public, nonprofit, and private sector community in Oregon and Southwest Washington with high quality, objective and credible economic analysis.
Potiowsky brings to the director posiotn years of expereince taking complicated economic forecasting and results, and turning it into a meaningful, understandable presentation for policymakers and stakeholders.
"NERC will work closely with our Institute for Porland Metropolitan Studies and the Population Research Center to use data to advance the prosperity of the region," says College of Urban and Public Affairs' Dean Lawrence Wallack.
