Shared governance opportunities for students

Do you know a student with strong leadership skills, who communicates well? The General Student Affairs Committee, a Faculty Senate committee, is asking faculty and staff to help recruit such students for an All University Committee. The 36 committees report to the Faculty Senate and address such issues as student academic appeals, the University's budget, child care services on campus, and much more. Interested students may contact Rayleen McMillan, ASPSU University Affairs Director at aspsu.ud@pdx.edu.

“Students add an invaluable perspective that helps to shape committee directions and decisions,” says Michele Miller, chair of the General Student Affairs Committee and an international student advisor. “In fact, a couple of committees cannot conduct their business without at least one student present.”

There are 58 student slots available on committees each year; 25 committees have one or two slots available, others have more. The Associated Students of Portland State University (ASPSU) president nominates recruited students to committee appointments. Any student can sit on a committee.
