The Department of Music organizes and hosts several special programs throughout the year for intensive study in specific areas. These programs are often open to local music performers and educators, as well as to aspiring young musicians and the general public.
Clarinet Studies At Portland State, students can study the clarinet as their principle subject within the framework of several different programs.

The Coordinate Movement Program is designed to give pianists a better
understanding of the physical processes involved in playing and how to
use this knowledge to their advantage.
Summer Choral Conducting Workshop Enjoy
a week at the beach with other choral enthusiasts and learn to
communicate sensitive musical ideas through visual, tactile, auditory
means. Rodney Eichenberger's enthusiasm takes the exploration of
choral conducting technique and performance artistry in exciting new
directions. Lectures, rehearsals, master class conducting, and movement
activities assist in the development of musicianship and vocal skills.

The Opera Program offers training and invaluable performing experience
to the singer-actor through the Opera Production and Opera Workshop.

The MENC chapter at PSU gives students who are pursuing a career in education a chance to network with other students and professionals and hone their teaching skills.
