Richard has been PSU's adjunct jazz trumpet instructor for the past 3+ years. He holds a BA in music performance from the University of Nevada, Reno where he graduated with honors. He has done four jazz recordings as a leader, many more as a sideman and is a co-founder of the Portland-based HeavyWood jazz record label.

Since moving to Portland in 2000 after a 6 year stint on the National Tour of the award winning broadway show "Cats", Richard's resume includes, to name a few, local jazz greats Dave Frishberg, Alan Jones, Randy Porter, Rebecca Kilgore, Bobby Torres, George Mitchell, Geoff Lee, Steve Christofferson, Tom Wakeling. Phil Baker, & Art Abrams.

In addition to being first-call trumpet for the Portland Best of Broadway Music series, Richard has also played with the Oregon Symphony on various Pops concerts and has experience in symphonic music,chamber ensembles, classical solo work, rock & roll, funk, blues, Casino showroom acts (such as Natalie Cole and Tony Bennett), and Jazz ensembles of various sizes.
