After an extensive nationwide search, Portland State University (PSU) has named Tom Bull as the new Executive Director of Alumni Engagement and the PSU Alumni Association.
Bull comes to PSU from Bastyr University, a private university of natural medicine in Seattle, where he built the alumni engagement office from the ground up, developing a strong base of support for the campus through innovative programming and effective communication.
"Tom brings a wealth of experience and expertise to PSU," said Françoise Aylmer, vice president for University Advancement. "He will help us engage our more than 130,000 alumni in the life of campus, inspiring them to stay connected with PSU."
Prior to joining Bastyr, Bull served in progressively responsible roles in alumni relations and development at Loyola, DePaul and Northwestern Universities in Chicago, Illinois. Tom holds a B.S. in organization development from Loyola University and an M.S. in strategic communications and business development from Northwestern. He starts Monday, Oct. 17 and replaces Pat Squire, who retired in August.
This month, the Portland State University Alumni Association is sponsoring PSU Weekend, the university’s annual community-wide open house featuring the 12th annual Simon Benson Awards Dinner, faculty and alumni lectures, the grand opening of the Science Research and Teaching Center, and a Vikings football game. Sara Gruen, best-selling author of “Water for Elephants,” will be the keynote speaker at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 in Smith Memorial Student Union.
