Industry Advisory Board

Purpose

The purpose of the Industry Advisory Board is to foster an ever higher level of excellence in the Portland State University Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering.

Members

 

Mathew Carter - Chair is PSU member of the PSU Distinguished Alumni, BSME ’86. Further studies include a MSME from the University of Washington. He is a Professional Engineer in Oregon & Washington. Professional Society memberships include SAE and the American Vacuum Society. He is the current President Oregon Metals Initiative, a public-private non-profit that funds research on metals in Oregon. His day job is as an Associate Technical Fellow in Boeing Research & Technology. Work is focused on metals fabrication and development of sustainable aerospace manufacturing. When not at work he enjoys mountaineering, (Mazamas climb leader), snowboarding, hiking. He is a volunteer mentor for the Grant high school robotics team.

 

Chris Coleman is a principal engineer at Tektronix in Beaverton, Oregon where he has worked as a mechanical engineer since 1994. Chris’s primary experience is in product design and development including thermal system design, electromagnetic shielding, and electronic interconnect. He holds several patents related to this work. Chris has an MSME degree from PSU and a BSME degree from Montana State University.

 

Steve Dishman - BSME / BSIE University of Washington. Steve has over 40 years experience in aircraft operations, continuous process manufacturing, discrete product manufacturing. With an emphasis on design for manufacturability, product development, manufacturing efficiency. Implementation of ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100C aerospace standard in discrete product manufacturing environments.

 

 
Bill Gellatly is owner and principal engineer at Full Circle Development, LLC - a mechanical design consultancy in Vancouver WA. Bill has over 40 years of experience in the packaging and manufacture of high-tech electronics, particularly with microwave interconnect, and more recently with a wide range of flat panel display technologies. The consultancy was started following a 37 year career with Tektronix. Relevant community interests are affordable and sustainable housing.  Bill also races sports cars and teaches high performance driving skills.

David Ruuhela is a consultant in truck powertrain engineering. Dave’s experience is 40 years in truck chassis and powertrain engineering, 25 of these years with Daimler Trucks North America. Since retiring in 2002, Dave has spent most of his time contracting back to DTNA on powertrain development for fuel economy. He holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from PSU. An advisory board member since 2001.

 

Paul Schertz, P.E.  is a manager of engineers in the areas of machine design and energy efficiency. He has held leadership positions at PECI and Electro Scientific Industries responsible for research, design, analysis, testing and intellectual property. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and holds a BSME from Texas A&M University.
