For the second year in a row, Portland State University won two excellence awards at the sixth annual SoMe Social Media Awards for effectively using social media to drive campus engagement with students, faculty, staff, alumni and local community around “Portland State of Mind,” a campus celebration held in October. Led by social media coordinator and School of Business alumnus Christian Aniciete '10 in PSU’s office of University Communications in partnership with former athletics marketing director Kenny Dow, the campaign featured a “Portland State of Mind” themed photo contest that used groundbreaking strategies to measure user engagement and garner user generated content. The campaign generated nearly 1,000 submissions.
In 2013, PSU received its first ever Social Media Awards in the “Best In-House” and “ET Phone Home” categories. During the same year, PSU’s social media efforts were also recognized with awards from the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
The Social Media Awards is an annual awards show, co-presented by the Social Media Club of Portland and TMMpdx, recognizing the best and brightest in digital marketing from across the country. These marketing awards are given to agencies, in-house marketing teams and freelancers for their creative and innovative uses of social media. This year's awards were held on May 22 at Castaway in Portland. Only one of two college institutions recognized (Eastern Washington’s Athletics department was the other one), PSU received its second set of SoMe Awards:
