TESL Certificate

TESL Certificate Planning Form

Unlike shorter and less comprehensive TESL training programs, the TESL Certificate offered through PSU's Department of Applied Linguistics provides a substantial foundation in both practical and theoretical knowledge of English Language teaching and learning.

The TESL Certificate program is designed to enable ESL/EFL teachers to meet the changing needs of students, schools, and employers in classrooms throughout the world.

The TESL Certificate provides students:
  • second language acquisition theory.
  • pedagogical skills.
  • a strong foundation in linguistics coursework.
  • 70-hour practice component of teaching, tutoring, and observation.
This training will enable graduates:
  • to teach ESL or EFL.
  • to adults and/or children.
  • in a wide variety of settings.

Admissions:

Students may enroll in the program as undergraduates or as post-baccalaurate students. Immediately upon making the decision to enroll, students should make an appointment to discuss their program with an Undergraduate Adviser in the Department.
