REIL Certificate

**Because the REIL certificate is to be put on hiatus at the end of spring quarter, applications for the program are no longer being accepted.

REIL Certificate - Scope of Study

The REIL Certificate provides fundamental training of language revitalization, jointly offered by Department of Applied Linguistics and Native American Studies Program.  This interdisciplinary approach helps students understand community and language backgrounds in deeper and holistic manners.

Students will learn about causes of language loss and factors involved in language maintenance, and acquire skills for working with Native communities and organizations on language revitalization, including developing language materials and language assessment tools.

The REIL Certificate is designed to provide students with:

     - background linguistic and community knowledge

     - language acquisition/bilingualism theory

     - pedagogical skills

This training will enable graduates:

     - to prepare to work with Native communities and organizations on language revitalization

The academic requirements of the REIL Certificate provide:

      - an interdisciplinary foundation/training for language revitalization along with supervised field experience
