PSU Dietitian Jordann Kearns Named 2012 Young Dietitian of the Year

Portland State University's Student Health & Counseling (SHAC) Dietitian Jordann Kearns was named the 2012 Young Dietitian of the Year by the Oregon Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

"Jordann has brought so much to SHAC with her work on intuitive eating, eating disorders, and overall patient care," said Mark Bajorek, MD, Director of Health Services for SHAC. "At PSU we know that Jordann is amazing, kind, and considerate, and we are very excited that the whole Oregon Academy now knows."
 
In addition to working at SHAC, Jordann also does relief work for Providence Hospital and is a Columbia River Eating Disorder Network Board Member. In 2004 she traveled to Washington D.C. with the Eating Disorder Coalition to lobby congress to pass a bill that would require insurance to cover Eating Disorder treatment. Jordann also helped launch the first Intuitive Eating support group on PSU campus. The program has been so successful, that a second Intuitive Eating group was started this Spring. 
 
Jordann earned her BS in from Oregon State University in 2004. In 2006, she completed the OHSU dietetic internship and started working at SHAC later that year. Jordann has been a volunteer Dietetic Internship Preceptor for OHSU, helping to educate the future of dietetics. She has also started a website called www.PortlandRD.com that helps to connect Portland dietitians to one another. In her spare time, Jordann enjoys photography and learning Photoshop and web design. She loves cycling and yoga, especially prenatal yoga as she waits for her first daughter to arrive.
