This June, the Center for Women, Politics, and Policy ran their 10th year of NEW Leadership Oregon (NLO) with 35 new women leaders from 12 Oregon schools participating in workshops, hearing from over 50 women leaders, and going to Salem to experience our capitol firsthand and meet former governor – and Oregon woman first – Governor Barbara Roberts.
Each year based on participant feedback, they add new components to NLO to ensure the program continues to be fresh and bold. This year, they added several new components to the program including: the Elect Her-Campus Women Win Program, Community Dinners and the NLO Fall Bridge Day. They partnered with AAUW to run Elect Her, a national program that works to encourage and train women students to run for student government and win!
The Community Dinners were generously hosted by CWPP Board Members and supporters and offered the chance during the program for participants to share an evening with seasoned women leaders. At the programs completion many of the participants listed this as one of their favorite events of the six-day program.
This September, the Center is expanding NLO by having a Fall Bridge Day. This event will act as a reunion for their 2013 NLO graduates and an opportunity to further their training through workshops on wage negotiation, joining boards and commissions and career advancement after NLO.
