MA TESOL - Degree Requirements

Beginning Fall 2009, MA TESOL students must take the sequence LING 559/560/561 and take these courses consecutively. In other words, LING 559, which is taken fall quarter of a student's first year here, is a prerequisite for LING 560, which can be taken only after one has successfully 16 hours of graduate credit in this program. A student must also have successfully completed or be enrolled in LING 577 Methods I when taking LING 560.

LING 390 Introduction to Linguistics or equivalent

LING 390 cannot be taken Pass/No Pass.
LING 392 Structure of the English Language or equivalent The MA TESOL Grammar Prerequisite can also be met by earning a passing score of 80% or higher on the English Grammar Test taken during your first quarter as an MA student.
