LING 507: Thesis Writing

This course covers the research writing elements that are typically found in Applied Linguistics/TESOL, including research writing, reviewing and responding to reviews. As part of the course, students will collect a small amount of data, analyze that data, and present the data as part of a written paper.
Final papers will include an abstract, a literature review, methodology, results, discussion, conclusion and references in the APA style. Students will practice reviewing and giving feedback on papers, both in small groups and writing a formal anonymous review. Students will edit their papers based on this feedback and write a response to the reviews.
Prerequisites LING 560 and LING 561
- Empirical research paper (50%)
- Anonymous review of peer's paper (15%)
- Response letter to peer's review of your paper (15%)
- Participation in class, on-line discussions (20%)

Other Relevant Information: This course will require fairly intense work on writing, with weekly deadlines for drafts and revisions. There will also be a weekly requirement to read and respond to your peers' writing. You should come to class with a basic literature review, research question and methodology that can then be revised during the quarter.
