A technical introduction to linguistics, intended primarily to support further course work in theoretical and applied linguistics and related fields.
Topics:
- principles of linguistic analysis
- phonetics and phonology
- morphology,
- syntax, and semantics.
A brief overview of other topics is also included, such as
- language acquisition
- language in social contexts,
- a brief sketch placing English in historical perspective.
