LING 390: Introduction to Linguistics

A technical introduction to linguistics, intended primarily to support further course work in theoretical and applied linguistics and related fields.

Topics:

  • principles of linguistic analysis
  • phonetics and phonology
  • morphology,
  • syntax, and semantics.

A brief overview of other topics is also included, such as

  • language acquisition
  • language in social contexts,
  • a brief sketch placing English in historical perspective.
