LING 390: Introduction to Linguistics

A technical introduction to linguistics, intended primarily to support further course work in theoretical and applied linguistics and related fields.
- principles of linguistic analysis
- phonetics and phonology
- syntax, and semantics.
A brief overview of other topics is also included, such as
- language acquisition
- language in social contexts,
- a brief sketch placing English in historical perspective.
Other Relevant Information: LING-390 is a prerequisite course which must be completed before the student may undertake further study in the Applied Linguistics department.
