Interests
Minority health; chronic disease self-management programs for minority populations; aging and public policy; long-term care planning.
Projects
Dr. Cheriel served as a principal or co-investigator on numerous studies funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Northwest Health Foundation, and the Salem Hospital Foundation. Earlier projects dealt with issues of employer mandate and Medicare-Medicaid program integration in Oregon. Current projects (My Health in My Hands and the Arthritis Self-Help Program) involve the development and measurement of support systems for Latinos coping with chronic illnesses. Dr Cheriel recently completed two projects as a consultant for The Lewin Group on long-term care planning and Medicaid service prioritization.
