Dr. Scannell teaches courses in mental health and aging, and cross-cultural aspects of aging. She is an ordained Episcopal priest who continues to conduct research that explores issues of quality of life among older people who live in adult care homes, assisted living communities, or in their own homes with an array of supportive services. Two specific areas of interest include (a) spirituality and spiritual support for people who have Alzheimer's disease or related cognitive disorders, and (b) family relationships and communication in later life.
