Mission Statement:
The mission of OISSS is to advance PSU’s commitment to global excellence. We orient, advise, and support international students and scholars while advocating for cultural and intellectual exchange through education, outreach and service.
Vision Statement:
We believe that a vibrant international academic community enriches the campus and city and is an essential component to understanding our role as global citizens in an increasingly interdependent world.
It is our goal to provide you with all of the information and support you need as you pursue your education at Portland State University. When you arrive at PSU, our advisors will assist you with your F-1 or J-1 visa status. We will also provide you with everything you need to know about life in beautiful Portland, Oregon, from information about taxes and health insurance to housing and transportation. Our mentoring and orientation programming can help you through your cultural adjustment process.

As you begin your journey of cultural and personal discovery, we look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve academic success.
Our Director, Judy Van Dyck
Judy has worked in the international education field for almost 30 years, and enjoys learning from students every day! She has lived, worked, and studied in Japan and France and is currently making some progress in learning Chinese. Her hobbies include playing the octave mandolin, cheering for the Blazers, and going to Hawaii on vacation with her family. In 2010, she bungy jumped from the 3rd highest bungy jump in the world (134 meters!) in New Zealand.
