The Council consists of twelve voting members including faculty and staff, one student representative, and five to six ex officio members (Vice Provost for Instruction, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Director of Institutional Research and Planning, representation from the Center for Academic Excellence, representation from the Office of Student Affairs).
Members serve three-year terms. Appointments are made by the Provost and the Vice Provost for Instruction and Dean of Undergraduate Studies to represent the breadth of academic units and programs of the institution. The Committee Chair is elected in the first meeting of the year from among the membership for one academic year (renewable).
The IAC reports annually to the Provost and the Faculty Senate.
Since its inception in 2006, and building on the work done by the Assessment Resource Network since 2000, the primary work of the IAC has been the development of Campus Wide Learning Outcomes (CWLO) that define the undergraduate educational experience at Portland State.
Following the Faculty Senate vote on March 2, 2009 to adopt the Outcomes, the IAC is now working on a 5-year plan to promote the implementation and assessment of the Outcomes at a campus level as individual units continue their program level assessment activities.
