Welcome to PSU Week
It's a big week for Portland State, so big the Morrison Bridge will glow green and white in our honor. PSU will open its doors this week to thousands of alumni, students, parents and friends, starting with the bridge lighting on Oct. 18 and ending with a full weekend of free seminars, football and campus tours. Here are the highlights:
The 2011 Simon Benson Awards: Former secretary of state Dr. Condoleezza Rice will speak Oct. 19 at PSU's 12th annual awards dinner honoring Oregon's philanthropic leaders. About 1,600 people are expected to attend the dinner this year to honor The Furman Family and The Mark Family and raise money for the Fund for PSU.
Science Research and Teaching Center: PSU will unveil a $46.5 million renovation and expansion of its Science Research and Teaching Center (formerly Science Building 2) with tours, an open house and other events Oct. 21-22. The upgrades include remodeled student study areas, a new Center for Life in Extreme Environments, and a new home to the Rae Selling Berry Seed Bank and Plant Conservation Program.
PSU Weekend: PSU welcomes more than 1,200 friends, alumni and neighbors to campus for a community-wide open house. Events include 16 free seminars and a walking tour of recent bicycle and pedestrian innovations on campus. (Due to illness, Sara Gruen is unable to give the keynote speech. Homecoming and Football: The Vikings play the Willamette Bearcats at 5:05 p.m. on Oct. 22 at Jeld-Wen Field. Meet the players at 2:30 p.m. in the Park Blocks between Shattuck Hall and the Stott Center to walk them to the stadium. A student homecoming dance follows the game.
