PSU's summer session heats up
Are you ready for summer session at PSU? About 14,500 students are enrolled in one of the largest academic summer programs on the West Coast. This summer, look for a new ice cream shop with a mission, thousands of international visitors and plenty of reasons to get out of the classroom and into the sun. Here are the highlights.
PSU's summer session offers more than 2,200 courses in 60 departments. Special programs include a German immersion summer camp, a human clinical anatomy class and courses taught by international visiting professors.
Ben and Jerry's
New Avenues for Youth is opening a Ben & Jerry's PartnerShop on the PSU campus this summer to provide real-world work experience and training for homeless and at-risk youth. The new shop will be in the PSU Urban Center.
The summer schedule includes fitness classes, swim clinics, youth activities and outdoor trips such as hiking at Ecola State Park and rock climbing at Rocky Butte.
About 2,300 students and 11 professors from all over the world are studying and teaching on campus this summer. The Tour of the World at Home lecture series showcases the visiting scholars' expertise.
For new undergraduates who start this fall, PSU has mandatory all-day advising and registration sessions starting July 7. New students are invited back the week before classes begin for Viking Days in the Park Blocks.
PSU's summer commencement is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, steps away from the busy Portland Farmers Market in the South Park Blocks.
