Campus Rec employees Josh Read and Yoshini Gunawardena have both won the prestigious William Wasson Student Academic and Leadership Award from the National Intramural-Recreation Sports Association (NIRSA).
Josh Read, a graduate student in Environmental Management, has been awarded one of twelve graduate student awards. Yoshini, an undergraduate in Graphic Design, won one of 24 undergraduate awards. Both students represented NIRSA Region VI, which consists of Oregon, Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Washington.
The William Wasson Award was created to recognize undergraduate and graduate students who excel in their in involvement with departments of recreational sports around the nation. Those who are nominated, not only stand out within their own program, but represent the highest standard in scholarship in the classroom as well.
Josh is currently the assistant coordinator of Campus Rec's intramural program and has been involved with Campus Rec since September, 2006. Josh is a nationally recognized basketball referee who most recently reffed at the Nike Invitational in Chicago, Illinois and has coordinated flag football, racquetball, basketball, and softball. Josh is also a student representative on the Student Rec Center committee.
Yoshini
is currently the Communications Coordinator for Campus Rec as well as a
Student Ambassador. Yoshini's graphic design work can be seen across
campus, including the artwork for the recent Student Leadership
Conference. Yoshini also recently placed 2nd in the NIRSA National
Creative Excellence Awards for her work on the Outdoor Program's
marketing brochures.

Portland
State University's Campus Rec program is a student-fee funded
organization and a member of NIRSA. Campus Rec is comprised of five
areas: aquatics, intramurals, outdoor program, rec clubs and fitness.
