International Night 2012
Portland State University is the home away from home for 1,952 students from all over the world. International Night is the annual celebration that gives them a chance to show what their native homes are all about—with food, fashion and music and dance.
This year’s International Night on May 18 was sold out days before the event – a testament to its popularity and the vibrant nature of PSU’s international student community. The theme was “A Journey without Borders.” The event was hosted by the Organization of International Students.
PSU’s international students come from 99 countries, the top five being Saudi Arabia, China, India, Japan and Vietnam. The 800 attendees at International Night were treated to fashion shows by students from Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Europe; dance performances by students from India, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Korea, and the United Arab Emirates; and music from throughout the globe, including a performance by world famous Polish cellist Ashia Grzesik.
Portland State is an international draw for faculty as well. Every year PSU welcomes more than 300 international visiting scholars and faculty to teach, conduct research and collaborate in academic activities with PSU faculty and students.
