For the third year, Portland State University’s School of Business will host the Business Leaders Lunch, taking place Thursday, May 23, at Portland Art Museum's Kridel Grand Ballroom. This year’s luncheon will honor Linda Sullivan, ‘88, as the 2013 Distinguished Accounting Alumna. Sullivan serves as the senior vice president, financial and operational services and chief officer of Southern California Edison (SCE), one of the nation’s largest electric utilities.
The event will also feature keynote speaker, Tom McDaniel, experienced financial expert in the energy, CleanTech and healthcare sectors. His keynote is titled The Quiet Revolution: How Technology is Driving a Cleaner and More Efficient Energy Infrastructure.
Sullivan is responsible for SCE’s financial management and fiscal integrity. She directs all aspects of finance, including strategy, planning, treasury, accounting, risk management and control functions. She also leads operational support functions for the company, including supply chain functions, transportation services and facilities management across SCE’s 50,000-square mile service territory. She was responsible for the company’s 2012 general rate case with the California Public Utilities Commission and a company-wide program to optimize the company’s cost structure.
Previously, Sullivan was vice president and controller for Edison International and SCE. She has held progressive management positions throughout the company and has worked at Edison’s unregulated business and parent company throughout her career.
Prior to joining Edison, Sullivan performed financial audits with industry specialization in utilities. Sullivan is a California certified public accountant and certified management accountant. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from Portland State University in 1988.
For 37 years, Tom McDaniel served as executive vice president, CFO and treasurer of Edison International. He is also the independent director of SunPower, SemGroup, Tendril, SCAN Health Plan and Cypress Envirosystems. An expert in the energy, CleanTech and healthcare sectors, McDaniel’s career spans a diverse and successful set of experiences as a CEO, CFO, financial expert and director.
McDaniel joined Southern California Edison in 1971 in the engineering department and, prior to forming Edison capital, held a variety of management and senior management positions in the areas of corporate planning, customer service and corporate finance. McDaniel has a bachelor of science in civil engineering from UCLA. He completed graduate studies in business and corporate finance at California State University, Los Angeles, and the University of Southern California.
