Jen Armbruster, Inclusive Rec and Community Service Coordinator, Jessie Belter, Aquatics and Safety Coordinator, Jenny Welnick, Associate Director of Programs, and Tyler Baker, Facility Coordinator presented at the annual National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Conference in Tampa, FL. The presentation was titled “Balls to Walls: How to make your facilities and programs accessible." It had over 45 attendees, the most ever for an inclusive/adaptive session. Many Universities approached the presenters afterwards and said “It was the most practical, helpful session they had been to." A representative from Texas A&M commented “You are changing the world, be proud.”
Jen Armbruster and Jessie Belter also ran a four hour preconference presentation and had attendees from across the US. Participants learned how to operate and program for individuals with sensory impairments (blind, visually impaired, deaf, hearing impaired), spinal dysfunction, and amputees. The presenters were given information in a way to be able to facilitate an in-service training to better equip their staff to welcome all individuals into their aquatic facilities.
