Vivek Shandas, Urban Studies and Planning faculty, and David Sailor, Mechanical and Materials Engineering faculty, won a $1 million grant to establish a Middle East center for the study of urban sustainability. Using Doha, Qatar, as a case study, Shandas and Sailor will work with faculty from Qatar University to understand urban climate systems, social and biophysical scaling processes, and decision making systems. The funding comes from the Qatar National Research Fund and will continue through the end of 2015.
