This Thursday, Chinese Visiting Scholar Xiaozhou Wang will describe recent efforts to preserve historic resources in Beijing. Wang will discuss challenges facing historical conservation including economic revitalization/gentrification, "fraud antiques", loss of culture and community due to relocation of local residents, and implementation hurdles. Wang will also discuss foreign media coverage of Beijing's historic preservation initiatives.

Wang is a Visiting Scholar from the Chinese Academy of Urban Planning and Design (CAUPD) in Beijing. She is studying urban planning during the 2011-2012 academic year at Portland State University as part of a collaborative training program with the PSU-China Innovations in Urbanization program.
