Introduction to Urban Renewal in Shenzhen: An Insider's Perspective - Lin Chen

Event Date and Location

Thursday, February 14, 12:00-1:30pm - Urban Center Room 220

More than 30 years ago, Shenzhen just was a small fishing village. Today, it is one of the fastest-growing cities in China. At the same time, it is also a city very limited land resources, requiring the city to undergo continual redevelopment to cope with needs for further growth. In this presentation, Lin Chen from Shenzhen's Urban Renewal Office will introduce the background of the city's urban renewal policies and government structure. She also will talk about the process used for demolition and reconstruction projects, and show how the city guides urban renewal activities along an orderly track. Shenzhen's Urban Renewal system is constantly changing and being improved through practice. This introduction is meant to provide useful information, but also to spur discussion around themes related to urban renewal internationally.
