Identification Cards

Obtaining a PSU Identification (ID) Card is the most important step to gaining access to parking and discounted fares. To get your identification card, you must visit the Office of Human Resources to complete new hire paperwork. Upon completion of the new hire paperwork process, you will receive a validation sticker and ID memo. Bring the memo to the ID booth in the lobby of Neuberger Hall where you will purchase a new ID card at a nominal cost. The ID window is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. With your PSU Identification card, you can gain access to some buildings and use the Library and Recreation Facilities; you can not do without it.

Getting to Work

Parking

PSU's vision includes our commitment to contributing to "environmental sustainability and quality of life in the Portland region and beyond." In support of this vision, members of the University community are encouraged to take advantage of alternative modes of transportation at every opportunity. If your commute requires driving, you may use University parking lots. Parking lot usage requires the purchase of a parking permit, which is can be purchased from the Office of Transportation and Parking. They also provide explanations about the types and costs of permits available along with transportation information with maps and brochures.

Once you've purchased your parking permit, it must be displayed properly at all times. Parking without a permit will result in a fine. University parking regulations are enforced by the Office of Transportation and Parking and the Portland city police. If you have questions about alternative transportation, parking permits, regulations, and citations, please contact the Office of Transportation and Parking.

Public Transportation

Many staff and faculty find it more convenient and economical to ride the bus and light rail to and from Portland State. As a member of faculty or staff, you may purchase a Passport at a reduced rate and request the fee be deducted directly from your monthly pay. The Passport Plus program consists of an all zone TriMet transit pass sticker (valid on all TriMet buses, MAX and the Portland Streetcar) and free Flexcar usage during business hours. Both Tri-Met and C-Tran provide "Park-and-Ride" locations in suburban areas, so that you can park their cars and ride buses to the University. The Passport also qualifies you for discounted parking in select structures on days you must drive in.

The PSU campus is served by several Tri-Met buses and the Portland Streetcar. You can ride buses from PSU's campus to connect with the C-Tran bus system in Vancouver and Tri-Met's Metropolitan Area Express (MAX) Light Rail system. For quick trips to and from PSU campus, you can ride any bus MAX train and/or Streetcar free within the downtown "Fareless Square" area. For more details, please contact the Office of Transportation and Parking and/or Tri-met.

Bike to Work

Many employees choose bicycling as their transportation choice. PSU is dedicated to increasing the number of bicyclist at the university. As part of PSU's commitment, the university offers a Bicycle Cooperative program on campus, with services for "do-it-yourself" bicycle repair and maintenance, including making available affordable supply of replacement parts and merchandize.
