At the end of each calendar/tax year, the University is required to issue a Form W-2 or 1042-S outlining wages you received at any time during the prior calendar year. A 1042-S is issued to anyone who claimed treaty benefits in the tax year. You should expect to receive a Form W-2 at the home address the University has on record in the Office of Human Resources late in the month of January of the new year. Staff who performed work for the University as Independent Contractors receive a Form 1099 in late January from the Business Affairs Office. If you performed work for employers other than Portland State University during the tax year, you should receive the applicable Form W-2 or Form 1099 from each of them as well. The Form W-2 that you receive for your work here may also be obtained via the PSU Information System.
Employees are then required to submit a tax return by April 15th of each year for the prior year for both Federal and State governments even if no taxes are owed. The following links should assist you in this process.
The Office of International Affairs hosts seminars in the spring of each year to provide education on how to file income tax returns.
