Move In & Move Out

Amenities

Electric, water, gas, garbage and high-speed wifi are all included.  Units with kitchens or kitchenettes include fridges or mini-fridges.  Sleeper units have mini-fridges and microwaves.  First year students in Ondine may bring a mini-fridge no more than 4 cubic feet.

Furnished Rooms

All units are furnished and come with a bed, desk, desk chair, and dresser for each resident.  Bed sizes vary.  Residents in Broadway, Montgomery, Ondine, and St. Helens will have an XL twin bed.  Residents in Blumel and Stephen Epler will have standard twin beds.  Blumel and St. Helens have barstools for the eat-in kitchen area.  Single units may have additional furniture, which may not be removed.  Use an extra bed as a couch; create an L-shaped desk from two; stack your dressers; it's up to you!

Packages + Mailing Address

Please do not mail your belongings to campus.  We do not have sufficient space at our Broadway Service Desk to store large packages for students.  If you wish to mail your belongings, there is a UPS store on campus.  Your mailing address, along with your room number, will be sent to you about a month prior to move-in.  Please include your room number on all mail and packages.  Learn more about our Broadway Service Desk.

Dining

All first-year students living on campus will have a meal plan. Meal plans can be used at Victor's Dining Center located in the 1st floor of Ondine. Transfer and continuing students can purchase a meal plan online through the PSU Eats website. Learn more about dining on campus.

Elevators

Broadway, Ondine, Epler, Blumel, and Montgomery have elevators.  The Broadway, Ondine, Epler, and Blumel elevators are activated with your PSU ID card.  The elevators in Montgomery are activated by your community key.  Elevator capacity may be limited.  Wait times for elevators may be longer than usual.  Bring a dolly to maximize the number of items you can bring in an elevator trip.  Plan to use the stairs whenever possible.  Wear comfortable shoes.  Bring a water bottle.  

Carts

While a very limited number of carts will be available, there are more students moving in than carts available. We recommend bringing a dolly or hand truck to help with the move-in process, and to take the stairs whenever possible.

Residential Parking Permits

If you have decided to bring your car to campus, you may purchase a parking permit from Transportation and Parking Services online.  Be sure to select a residence hall permit.  Most residents will not keep a car on campus and will utilize the MAX, bus, streetcar, or walk and bike.  

Moving Out

Prior to moving out make sure you can completed the Contract Cancellation Request Form through the Housing Portal. This is necessary for all move-outs except those occurring during the last three weeks of Spring or Summer Terms.

Spring Term Move-Out: Move out is required 24 hours after your last final, and no later than noon on June 13th if your last final is on the 12th.

Walk-Through Check-Out Stations, Spring 2026:

Locations:

• Broadway and Ondine Residents: located outside of Broadway 226.
• Blumel, Montgomery, Stephen Epler & St. Helens Residents: located in the Blumel Lounge

Times:

• Wednesday, June 3rd through Thursday June 4th: 1-3pm
• Friday, June 5th: 4-5 pm
• Saturday, June 6th and Sunday, June 7th: 1-3pm
• Monday, June 8th through Wednesday, June 10th: 12-7pm
• Thursday, June 11th: 10am - 7pm
• Friday, June 12th: 10am-9pm
• Saturday, June 13th: 8:30am-11:30am

Outside of these dates and times you can return your keys to the Broadway Service Desk (8am-10pm), or the dropslot outside Broadway 226 (10pm-8am). Be sure to place keys in a completed Express Check-Out envelope before dropping in the slot.

Steps for Moving Out

For a smooth move-out process, please make sure to pay close attention to each step below:

Step 1 - Clean Your Unit

• Thoroughly clean your room and remove all garbage and belongings.
• Move the furniture to the arrangement when you moved in, with beds on middle rungs.
• You may not leave items behind to pick up later or for the next occupant to use. Anything remaining in the room will incur charges for removal. Furniture removal will cost $250 per item.
• If you have a mini-fridge and live in Broadway, put the mini-fridge in the shower (if possible) with the door open to defrost the freezer. If you have a roommate who is not moving out, you can skip this step.

Step 2 - Return Keys.  

Residents have two options when returning keys and checking out of University Housing:

• Walk-Through (recommended):  If you return keys you may opt for a Walk-Through check out. Walk throughs are available at the Broadway Service desk daily at 1:00pm. For Spring Term Walk-Throughs, starting June 3rd, see above "Walk-Through Check Out Stations" for most up-to-date information. Staff will check your room for damages and cleaning needs while you are present. This is a good option if there are damages in your unit or if you have a roommate.  You must have all of your belongings out of the room before a walk-through can be completed.  Walk-Throughs can be completed even if your roommate has not yet moved out.
• Express Check-Out:  Return your keys and staff will complete an inspection of your room after you have moved out. If opting for an Express Check-Out, you will be unable to appeal any charges for cleaning or damages in your room beyond normal wear and tear.

You can return your keys to the Broadway Service Desk (8am -10pm) or the Express Check-Out drop box outside of Broadway 225 (10pm - 8am). Be sure to place keys in a completed Express Check-Out envelope before dropping in the box.

NOTE: Residents will be charged $250 for not checking out and returning keys. Do not skip this step before you leave campus. Do not leave your keys with a friend or in your room. You must drop them off yourself to avoid a $100 improper check-out charge. Mailed-in keys will not be accepted.

Parking: Residents moving out must obey all PSU and City of Portland parking regulations. If you have questions about parking, please contact Transportation and Parking Services at parking@pdx.edu.

Trash, Recycling, Dumpsters:  Residents must take all trash out to the dumpsters located near the residence halls. Belongings should not be left in the hallways or common areas. Residents will be charged for removal of furniture and trash left in the common areas of their communities. Leave empty recycling and compost bins in your room. Stephen Epler and St. Helens residents should leave their empty and clean Valet Trash can in their rooms.

Carts: You can check-out a cart at the Broadway Service Desk from 8am-9pm or during the Check-Out station times and locations listed above. A limited number of carts will be available. We recommend bringing a wagon or hand truck to assist with the move-out process.

Mail: Check your mailbox before you return your keys, remove name from mailbox, and complete forwarding paperwork with USPS. Ensure you don't have any packages at the Broadway Service Desk.

Bike: Remember to grab your bike if you have it locked up in a bike room or common area.

Donation Options

Spring 2026 Donations options on campus:

Cleaning out your pantry? Stop by the PSU Smallwood Food Pantry located in the basement of Smith Memorial Student Union to drop off any unopened shelf stable items (canned food, pasta, packaged snacks, etc.). The food pantry will be accepting donations during their open hours, which can be found on psufp.com. Please do not donate items that are expired, perishable, or refrigerated/frozen.

Chuck it for Charity, 11am - 3pm, June 10 - 12 between SMSU and Cramer Hall. Donate household items, decor, office and school supplies, kitchenware, art supplies, small appliances, electronics, recreational goods and toys. Hosted by the PSU Reuse Program. Volunteers are also welcome to sign up and help with the event.

ReStore Habitat for Humanity:  2-4pm, June 10  and 11th on 11th Ave near Oak Savanna.

PSU Athletics has teamed up with the ReStore Habitat for Humanity and will be available to take your donations of furniture, small appliances, home goods and kitchenware, decor, lamps, and more. Items must be in good condition. ReStore will be giving out 35% off coupons to their stores for those who donate.
