Letter from Michael Walsh,
Director of Housing & Residence Life
Welcome to Housing & Residence Life!
Portland State University’s credo is “Let Knowledge Serve the City.” We believe that the best way you can live out this credo and fulfill your potential as a PSU Viking is by living right where you learn – on campus in one of our ten residence halls. We offer a wide range of living options to fit your unique needs, including apartment living in both modern and historic buildings to more traditional “dorm” style living.
Unlike off campus housing, we specialize in housing only for the Portland State student - a quality not offered by unaffiliated landlords. Since we focus only on PSU Students, we can and do anticipate student needs while providing a living environment that complements your academic, career, and life goals. Living on campus helps you accomplish these goals more efficiently which translates to a higher GPA, lower academic costs, lower student debt, and a head start on your post graduate goals. You can actually save a lot of money this way by living on campus!
Part of this commitment to student success happens in our First Year Experience program for new college students of traditional age (19 and under). We have focused our First Year Experience staff and programs to help new first year students make the difficult transition from high school to college by getting to know one another, the university and the city. A successful first year transition on campus not only makes for a better first year, but leads to better grades, a stronger connection to people and the campus, and a greater likelihood of an on-time graduation.
Come experience what Portland and Portland State have to offer through housing. Regardless of what year or age you are we are here to provide you with an ease of living which will promote your success as a student. Please contact our office for more information, to take a tour, or to apply for housing.
We wish you all the best,
Director of Housing and Residence Life
