Construction begins on 6th Avenue between Harrison and Market
Light rail construction on 6th Avenue between Harrison and Market streets is scheduled to begin on March 3, 2008 and last up to 10 weeks.
Vehicular access will be restricted during this phase of construction:
• 6th Avenue will be closed between Harrison and Market streets. AAA employee parking will be maintained from Mill; AAA customer parking will be maintained from Market (Phase I – March 3-28) and from Mill (Phase II-March 29 until mid-May 2008).
• Montgomery and Mill streets will be closed at 6th Avenue (local access will be maintained).
• SW Market Street will be closed at SW 6th Avenue from 7 p.m. Friday, March 28 for up to 3 weeks for MAX/Streetcar tie-in track work and brick intersection installation.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the work zone, with short detours at intersections and temporary bridges across 6th Avenue as necessary. Sidewalk grading and renovation will take place on both sides of 6th Avenue between Harrison and Market.
In the roadway, crews will be digging, jack hammering, installing utilities, welding, setting rail and paving. Work will occur Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. After 6 p.m., construction will be limited to activities that generate little to moderate noise. Flood lights will be used to ensure safety. Following this phase, this area will reopen to vehicles and crews will continue with lower impact finish work.
