University Studies is proud to host the annual Senior Capstone Fair on Tuesday, May 1, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Smith Memorial Student Union, rooms 327, 328, and 329. This event is designed to showcase our Capstone courses being offered next academic year.
The Senior Capstone is the culmination of University Studies, Portland State’s general education program. Capstone courses are designed by Portland State University's faculty to build cooperative learning communities by taking students out of the classroom and into the local community and abroad. In Capstone courses, students bring together the knowledge, skills, and interests developed to this point through all aspects of their education, to work on a community project. Students from a variety of majors and backgrounds work as a team, pooling resources, and collaborating with faculty and community leaders to understand and find solutions for issues that are important to them as literate and engaged citizens.
The Capstone Fair was planned as a result of faculty requests to have one event to recruit students to participate in their Capstones and unveil new Capstones to students. Additionally the fair will help clarify the role and responsibilities that students can expect to take on as they engage in their Capstone. It provides a venue where students can meet with the Capstone instructors and the community partners associated with Capstones. The fair also serves to inform other faculty and administrators across campus about the various Capstone partnerships and projects.
We invite the entire PSU community to come to this informative event. This is an excellent way for students to choose which Capstone will be the most meaningful for them. It is also an event that will serve our first and second year students well because it will show them the culminating educational experience at PSU. It is important for students to know that during their senior year they will be expected to apply the skills that develop throughout their college education.
The 2012 Capstone Fair will be held Tuesday May 1, 2012
Location: Smith Memorial Student Union, Rooms 327, 328, and 329
