David Percy, Geology faculty, has been elected to a second four-year term representing North America and academia on the International Union of Geological Sciences Commission for the Management and Application of Geoscience Information, which develops standards for geological data interchange between computer systems through the GeoSciML markup language. This standard was recently accepted by the Open Geospatial Consortium, an international standards body that codifies Geospatial Information Systems data communication between computers and it is being adopted by Esri, the world leader in GIS software.
