Profile: Robert Lockwood

As one of the university's pre-law advisors, Bob is helping students to understand the demands of law school and the legal profession.

  • Professor Lockwood earned his J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law in 1974. After a brief time working at the Metropolitan Public Defender Office, he joined the faculty at Portland State University in 1975. Since 1984, Bob has served as the university's faculty athletic representative, assuring compliance with all school, conference, and NCAA regulations with respect to student athletes.

    Professor Lockwood's primary teaching responsibilities relate to criminal procedure and criminal law. He also has a strong interest in mental health law, especially as it relates to involuntary civil commitments. Bob's research interests include the academic success of student athletes, the role that sports play in American society, and Title IX (gender equity) issues.
