Background

Professor Ingle obtained his Ph.D. in social science from the Maxwell School of
Public Affairs, Syracuse University, in 1977. He has over 30 years experience in
international public service working in more than 80 countries. His career spans
local to multinational assignments in the government, nonprofit and corporate
sectors. He has worked for the US Agency for International Development
(USAID), The World Bank Group and the University of Maryland. From 1997 to
2003 he served as Senior Associate to Booz Allen Hamilton, the worldwide
strategy and technology consulting firm, in Columbia, Vietnam, Hungary and the
Balkans. 


Dr. Ingle began teaching at Portland State University in 2003. He is the lead for
the Master of Public Administration (MPA) specialization in global leadership and
management. His work with PSU includes collaborative efforts and engaged
research geared toward sustainability, community-based service learning, and
leadership development. Appointments and projects include the following:

  • Principal Investigator: Hatfield School's collaborative "Public Leadership for Sustainability in Vietnam" initiative with the Ho Chi Minh National Political Administrative Academy in Hanoi, Vietnam.
  • Co-principal Investigator: PSU's Urban Sustainability and Land Use programs with the Chinese Ministry of Land and Resources and the Ministry of Construction.
  • Special Internationalization Adviser: Office of International Affairs, PSU, 2005-2009
  • Director of PSU's annual Vietnam Study Exchange in globalization, leadership and sustainable development.

Dr. Ingle also serves as an Advisory Board Member for Mercy Corps's Global Envision (2005-2009).
