Profile: Criminology and Criminal Justice Program

See why 92% of graduating seniors are satisfied to very satisfied with this program.

A degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice opens the door to careers in local and federal law enforcement, in corrections (probation and parole, correctional administration), in crime prevention, in human services (offender counseling, victim assistance), and in fields such as security and investigation within the business community. Graduates from our program also go on to pursue advanced degrees in such areas as law, criminal justice, psychology, social work, public administration, and urban planning.

Mirroring the broader mission of the university to "Let Knowledge Serve the City," CCJ partners with:

U.S. District Court Pre-Trial and Probation
Portland Police Bureau
Metropolitan Public Defender's Office
Multnomah County District Attorney's Office
U.S. Bureau of Alcohol
Tobacco & Firearms
Office of Neighborhood Involvement-Crime Prevention Services

and many other organizations to provide students entering their senior year to participate in an outstanding internship program.

Our full-time faculty members hold doctorates or similar degrees, have proven teaching ability, publish research in professional journals, and maintain contacts throughout the regional, national, and international criminology and criminal justice community. Consistent with our expectations of students, faculty members in the division actively engage in community scholarship, often in conjunction with the Criminal Justice Policy Research Institute (CJPRI).
