Political Science Major & Minor Pre 2013-2014

Political Science Requirements Pre 2013-2014

The major in political science is a traditional course of study exposing students to three basic areas of the discipline. In addition to the University's general education requirements, political science majors complete a minimum of 48 credits of coursework, distributed as follows:

  • PS 200 - Introduction to Politics (4 credits)
  • One 400-level course from each of three field areas (12 credits)
    • Area I: American Politics
    • Area II: International and Comparative Politics
    • Area III: Political Theory and Methodology
  • Electives
    • upper division courses (20 credits)
    • lower or upper division courses (12 credits)

A minor in political science requires 28 credits of coursework:

  • PS 200 - Introduction to Politics (4 credits)
  • One 400-level course from two of three fields (8 credits)
    • Area I: American Politics
    • Area II: International and Comparative Politics
    • Area III: Political Theory and Methodology
  • Electives
    • upper division courses (16 credits)

In order to count toward fulfillment of the major or minor, political science courses must be passed with a grade of C or above. Political science course descriptions are included in the PSU Bulletin (see pp. 353-358). To keep track of political science degree requirements and progress toward fulfilling them, students are encouraged to fill out a program of study worksheet with our Undergraduate Advisor, Alyssa Dart.
