Political Science Requirements Pre 2013-2014
The major in political science is a traditional course of study exposing students to three basic areas of the discipline. In addition to the University's general education requirements, political science majors complete a minimum of 48 credits of coursework, distributed as follows:
- PS 200 - Introduction to Politics (4 credits)
- One 400-level course from each of three field areas (12 credits)
- Area I: American Politics
- Area II: International and Comparative Politics
- Area III: Political Theory and Methodology
- Electives
- upper division courses (20 credits)
- lower or upper division courses (12 credits)
A minor in political science requires 28 credits of coursework:
- PS 200 - Introduction to Politics (4 credits)
- One 400-level course from two of three fields (8 credits)
- Area I: American Politics
- Area II: International and Comparative Politics
- Area III: Political Theory and Methodology
- Electives
- upper division courses (16 credits)
In order to count toward fulfillment of the major or minor, political science courses must be passed with a grade of C or above. Political science course descriptions are included in the PSU Bulletin (see pp. 353-358).
