Mingus Mapps is a political scientist. He received his Ph.D. from the Government Department at Cornell University. Mapps has held teaching or research positions at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, Bowdoin College and Brandeis University. Professor Mapps’ research and teaching interests touch on a wide range of issues in American politics. For example, Mapps has taught classes on “Urban Politics,” “Campaigns and Elections,” “Race and American Politics” and “Inequality and Social Policy.” He has also published on wide range of topics, including public opinion and welfare policy and racial politics in urban settings. Currently, Professor Mapps is finishing a book manuscript, Phoenix Rising: Black Officeholding in Congress and State Legislatures, 1830s to 2008.
