Andreas Schroeer, M.A., Ph.D.

Dr. Schröer has taught at Heidelberg University, Erlangen-Nuremberg University, and Zeppelin University in Germany. He has earned his Masters degree in Philosophy and Education at Tuebingen University; he holds a Ph.D. in organizational studies (education/sociology) at Erlangen-Nuremberg University and was a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University. Before embarking on an academic career, Dr. Schröer worked as a program manager for nonprofit organizations and continues to consult numerous nonprofit organizations and foundations, particularly on strategic management issues. Before coming to Portland, he served as research director of the Center for Social Investment in Heidelberg, which is now the largest European university based research institute for the nonprofit sector.
Research Focus & Interests
Dr. Schröer has a special interest in leadership and organizational development in nonprofit organizations and foundations. He conducts research on strategic management in foundations, governance problems in hybrid organizations and leadership challenges in international nongovernmental organizations.
He serves on the board of two high schools, consults in nonprofits and is an active member in a number of scientific organizations, amongst others the European Group on Organizational Studies and the International Society for Third Sector Research. He also serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Civil Society.
