Throughout the duration of your stay on the PSU campus, you will be housed in one of several Portland State Residence Halls. Rooms will be assigned by pairs, with men and women on two different floors. Rooms come with the following amenities: weekly maid service, bedding, towels, fan, coffee/coffeepot, and alarm clock. There is a lounge area and laundry facilities are also available for use. Microwaves are available for use on each floor, in the common area. A full tour and orientation of the facilities will be provided upon arrival.
PSU staff will distribute a daily food allowance to MEPI students for use at a variety of local dining options nearby campus and throughout Portland.
COMPUTER & INTERNET ACCESS
Computer labs are located throughout the PSU campus and available for student use. Most labs contain a number of PCs and Macs that you can log into and use for internet access, as well as printing needs.
In addition, wi-fi connections are available all throughout campus, so please feel free to bring your laptop if you wish to do so. Further instructions on wi-fi use and lab login will be provided upon arrival.
Email communication with your loved ones throughout your MEPI involvement is encouraged. In addition, PSU will provide individual Skype credits so that you can call home as needed. While Skype credits will be limited due to high costs, we estimate that you should be able to make at least one weekly phone call.
STUDENT RECREATION CENTER
You will have free access to PSU's Student Rec Center throughout the duration of your stay. The Rec Center is located on the Northeast corner of campus, just a few blocks from Ondine. It includes a two-court gymnasium, a three-lane running track that runs 1/11 miles long, a synthetic floor gymnasium equipped with dasher boards for floor hockey and indoor soccer, a large cardiovascular and weight training facility, 2 multi-purpose group fitness suites, an aquatic complex including a lap pool and whirlpool spa, new locker rooms, and a bouldering wall. The facility will be open all days of the week for recreational use.
PSU's Miller Library provides access to onsite books, periodicals, audio/video materials, and exhibits, as well as web resources for research. The library features a large computer lab, ample student study space, a coffee shop, and around-the-clock research support from librarians.
PSU will be covering costs for the following items throughout your MEPI participation: lodging, transportation, food, scheduled activity fees, and academic supplies. For air travel, we will only cover the cost of ONE piece of luggage, so please plan accordingly if you plan to bring more than one large suitcase (airlines charge anywhere between $20 and $50 for additional checked bags).
In addition, you are expected to bring your own spending money for non-program activities such as personal shopping, which will not be covered by the program. We will provide further information on currency exchange, bank accounts, and ATM access as needed. Traveling with large sums of cash is highly discouraged; if possible, we recommend that you carry funds in the form of travelers' checks.
In case of an emergency, or if you have a condition that requires medical attention, we will notify your emergency contact immediately and likely take you to one of the following nearby medical facilities:

- Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center
- Providence Portland Medical Center
Health insurance coverage will be provided directly through the greater MEPI program.
