Application Process & Requirements
Applying to Portland State University is a two-step process which involves submitting application materials to both Portland State University’s Office of Admissions and Records and the Graduate Business Programs office.
Once your application is complete, an admissions coordinator will contact you with confirmation that your application has been received.
Step 1

- Completed PSU Graduate Application form. Please note, Portland State admits Graduate Business Program applicants for Fall term only.
- $50 USD non-refundable Application Fee
- The fee is good for one year. You may pay by credit card online.

- One (1) official transcript from each college or university attended.
- Transcripts should be sent in original, unopened envelopes from the issuing institution. Applicants are required to submit transcripts from all institutions attended; this includes community colleges and may include institutions attended as part of a study abroad program.
- The equivalent of a four-year U.S. bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- International students with a three-year undergraduate degree may apply for admission through the Bridge Program.
- A minimum undergraduate cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher, or a graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher based on 9 or more graded graduate credits.
- Vaccination Form; this form is not required until after admission has been granted, therefore you will not need to provide it for your initial admissions review. However, you will need to provide this form and show proof of two MMR vaccinations before you can register for classes. More information can be found here. International Students ONLY
- All graduate students whose first language is not English must meet the English language proficiency requirement prior to enrollment in academic classes. This applies to all students, including resident aliens and citizens. - Immigration Fact Sheet and Evidence of Financial Resources
Required for applicants who plan to reside in the United States with an F-1 or J-1 visa. You must show proof of adequate financial support for at least the first year of study at Portland State University . - Certified English Translation of Transcripts and Diplomas

- Complete the Graduate Business Program Application
- Two (2) Letters of Recommendation
Applicants are required to submit exactly two letters of recommendation through the online application. If more than two letters are submitted, the admissions committee will use only the first two letters received from the application file. Recommendation letters should be submitted through the online applications. - Unofficial Transcript from each College or University Attended
Transcripts will be uploaded through the online application. Applicants are required to submit transcripts from all institutions attended; this includes community colleges and may include institutions attended as part of a study abroad program.
Transcripts should reflect:- The equivalent of a four-year U.S. bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- A minimum undergraduate cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher, or a graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher based on 9 or more graduate credits.
- If your undergraduate GPA is between a 2.74 and 2.5, you will need to submit the petition form.
- If your cumulative undergraduate GPA is below a 2.5, PSU will require you to enroll and take 9 graded graduate credits and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. This must be completed before you can apply to any of the Graduate Business Programs.
- Official GMAT or GRE Score Report
All applicants must complete either the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
GMAT and GRE scores are valid for five years. Please have your official score sent to Portland State University by using one of the following institution codes:Program

- TOEFL or IELTS score
Test scores are required for applicants who have received their undergraduate degree from a non-English speaking country
- For students who are required to take the TOEFL or IELTS, please email a copy of your unofficial score report to gradadmissions@sba.pdx.edu.

- Graduate business students seeking admission to Portland State University must meet the same minimum score requirement as the PSU Office of International Admissions.

- Interview
For the MBA & MSFA programs, the final step in the admissions process is an interview. Interviews are conducted by invitation only and are a required part of the application process. Depending on your geographic location, you will either be invited for an in-person interview on campus or a phone interview from your current location.
