Big Plans: School of Fine & Performing Arts
Just steps from the city's museums, concert halls and theaters, the School of Fine & Performing Arts is located along the tree-lined South Park Blocks of downtown Portland. The School's location in the heart of Oregon's cultural center enables PSU students and faculty to apply classroom theory to the real-world challenges of working artists, musicians, actors and architects.
Architecture Department General Program
Portland is a great city lauded for its architecture and urban design. Because downtown Portland wraps around the PSU campus, students can study and practice architecture in a real-world setting while interacting with the area's top professionals. Faculty encourages students to explore the discipline of architecture as a cultural, artistic, humanistic and professional phenomenon, with the ultimate goal of providing communities with spaces that are beneficial and meaningful.
Art Department General Program
An international faculty of artists, designers and scholars is dedicated to helping students understand and experience ways that artists and their works are involved in a larger social context, both in the contemporary world and in the course of world history. Over 700 students major in studio, graphic design and art history, benefiting from the city's historical, cultural and aesthetic influences and a variety of opportunities to work with professional artists.
Music Department General Program
The Department of Music prepares students for a wide range of careers in music. Close ties with the region's premier performing organizations enable students to work with the finest professional musicians in the area, as well as world-class performers who visit each year. No other institution in Oregon offers so many exceptional opportunities for young musicians.
Theater Arts General Program
The Theater Arts program provides students with training that instills the highest artistic standards required to begin a career in professional or educational theater. Curriculum covers the major facets of theater with emphases in all major areas of the art. The faculty represents a blend of academic achievement and professional credits in acting, directing and design.
The Fund to Light Lincoln Hall
Help create a revitalized Lincoln Performance Hall that is worthy of Portland's cultural district. The downtown historic landmark's current stage lighting system is in critical need of replacement—many parts are so old that replacements can no longer be found! The well-loved facility hosts more than 25,000 patrons yearly who enjoy performances by PSU students, regional professional ensembles and visiting artists. Your gift will ensure that Lincoln Hall can continue to host the world's greatest musicians and offer a hands-on laboratory for tomorrow's theater professionals.
